It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Emily Jane (Cooper) Vazquez age 83 passed away on the evening of Tuesday, September 24, 2024, peacefully in Grand Rapids, Michigan she was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. Surrounded by family from all around the country, she leaves a legacy of love and learning that is felt from coast to coast.
Emily was a dedicated resident of Muskegon, Michigan. Throughout her life, she showed great compassion and care through her work as a nurse (LPN) in the intensive care unit at the local hospital, a doctor's office, and an HMO. Additionally, she devoted her time to teaching English and sharing her love for music by directing a children's choir and being a featured soloist at the Salvation Army. Emily's passion for singing also led her to become a well-known and often invited soloist at several local churches, reflecting her strong connection to her community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Miguel Vazquez, whom she was married to for 60 years, her brother, Jim Cooper, and her sister, Sandra (Cooper) Terlaan.
She is survived by her; children, Tereasa (John) Tekautz of Fruitport, Michigan, Felipe (Belsis) Vazquez of Kenilworth, New Jersey and Andrew (Melonie) Vazquez of Burbank, California; Grandchildren, Elizabeth, Catherine, Valeria and Amethyst.; Siblings, Donna (Cooper) Peter, John (Sally) Cooper, Karen (Cooper) Sanders, Robin Cooper and Jeff Cooper.
A celebration of Emily's life will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Salvation Army, 1221 Sonant St. Muskegon, Michigan at 1:00 pm with a visitation one hour prior to the service. A committal service will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Fruitport. A reception will follow the committal at The Salvation Army. The memory of her will always be cherished, and her absence will be deeply felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
