Jane Kostka Nevins passed away quietly on April 1st in Murrieta, California after a lengthy illness.
Jane was born in Peterborough, England and emigrated, with her parents, to Toronto and ultimately Windsor Ontario, where she grew up. She attended high school and Hotel Dieu Nursing School in Windsor.
She began her nursing career as a surgical nurse at William Beaumont Medical Center in Royal Oak, Michigan where she met her future husband, Dr. James Nevins. Upon marrying, the Nevins moved to California where she worked as a private scrub nurse for plastic-cosmetic surgeons in the San Francisco Bay Area and San Diego. Subsequent to that, she lived for ten years in Bloomington, Indiana, where her husband was the director of Sports Medicine at Indiana University. She then moved back to Temecula, California and settled as a homemaker.
In addition to her husband, Jim, she is survived by her step-daughter, Amy Romero, and three step-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jaroslav and Geri Kostka.
She’ll be fondly remembered by friends and family as a warm and generous person who loved life. She loved cooking for which she was a significant talent, was an unabashed movie buff, loved integrating with her many friends, and loved caring for and playing with our dogs. She was an avid reader, loved attending sporting events, especially hockey, baseball and college football. She was also a fanatic Anaheim Ducks hockey fan.
If so inclined, her favorite charity was the Humane Society of America. Any donations in her name would be very Much appreciated.
