James Erskine Russell, Jr.

James E. (Jim) Russell, Jr. , 67, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023 at his home. He was the son of the late Aileen and James E. Russell, Sr. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Russell; sister, Debbie Young and husband Don; brother, Brian Russell and wife Brenda; grandchildren, Emerson Russell, Easton Rhoad, Charlee Russell and Edwin Russell. He was preceded in death by his son, James Andrew “Andy” Russell. Jim, who was affectionately known as “Papa J” to his grandkids, who he loved dearly and took care of to the point of spoiling, was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, loved classic cars, especially GTO’s, Halloween and his sweet puppies, Allie and Buddy. He posted many memes on Facebook that showed his bigger than life personality and had a wide circle of friends including his Bridgestone Retiree family. Jim was a past member of the TN Jaycees and held many offices including President of the Smyrna Jaycees. He was President of Smyrna Little League in the late 80’s and passed his love of baseball on to his son and grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life gathering will be on Friday evening, September 15, 2023 from Four O’clock until Eight O’clock at Roselawn Funeral Home. A private graveside service for family will be held at a later date.
