Following a courageous battle against the ravages of Parkinson’s disease, Barbara departed this earth on October 7, 2014, surrounded by family and friends. She now resides in a place that Jesus went to prepare for her where there is no more pain, nor sorrow, nor tears. Barbara was born on September 21, 1932 to Rev. Donald and Elva Wert in Youngstown, Ohio. On June 12, 1954 she married Donald Porter and spent the next 20 years as a military wife. Despite 14 moves in those 20 years, she never complained and kept a wonderfully happy home as they moved around the United States, France and Germany. Barbara is survived by her most blessed husband, LTC (Ret.) Donald C. Porter; her brother Ron Wert, and children Cindi (Mark) Sigmon, David (Debbie) Porter, Kenneth Porter and Sharon (David) Stanczak; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is deeply loved and missed by her family who have been so richly blessed by her unending love. Her family is grateful beyond what words can express for the skilled and compassionate care she received from her physical therapist, Colleen Smith, her At Home caregivers, her Alive Hospice workers, and all her other devoted caregivers.
Celebration of Life Service will be at Franklin Road Baptist Church, 3148 Franklin Road, Murfreesboro, TN on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM.
