With both sorrow and joy, we share the passing of our dearly loved mother, Nancy Lee Furman Wise on March 12, 2024.
Nancy was born at home in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania on April 30, 1938 to the late Charles Lee and Margaret Crouch Furman. She was married to Harry Wise on June 28, 1959. She is survived by her two children: Lisa and husband Eric DeNicola, of Venice, Florida, Scott and wife Barbara Wise of Morgantown, WV. Nancy has three beloved grandsons: Jonathan DeNicola, Logan and wife Tiffany DeNicola, and Ethan Lee Wise. She is survived by two brothers whom she lovingly referred to as ‘the boys:’ Melvin and wife Mary Ellen Furman of Fredericksburg, VA ; Glenn and wife Jean Furman of Gainesville, VA. She has one brother-in-law, Albert Lee Wise of Waynesburg, Pa and many nieces and nephews.
Nancy graduated from Mt. Morris High School in 1956 and then attended the Monongalia General Hospital School of Nursing graduating in 1959 as an RN. Nancy’s career spanned over thirty years and she found great joy in working as a nurse. There are many stories of mom’s nursing days, but one that highlights her devotion is when she hobbled into the recovery room one winter morning after slipping on ice. A doctor sweetly scolded her and gave the order to get her to x-ray. She left early that day… something that never happened ….with a fracture and a cast signed by the ‘girls’ in recovery whom she loved like family.
Nancy enjoyed the changing of the seasons, a cup of coffee -especially with a pastry, decorating her home, travelling and spending time with family, and shopping.
We are most grateful for our mother’s legacy of love and unwavering loyalty. Though these past years have been difficult in witnessing the deterioration of her body and mind, we are thankful Mom had no pain and remained a grateful person. She still enjoyed listening to the old hymns of the church and with prompts, recalled words from her favorite scriptures. May we be challenged to hide God’s word of life in our hearts so that even when our time on earth is waning, we will know with no shadow of a doubt that God’s holy presence is forever with us, rich and full. Nancy was a lifelong member of the Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle.
Oh, what hope we have to see our precious mother again. Thank you, Mom, for always pointing us to Jesus.
Nancy was lovingly cared for the past two years by the Harmony Square Memory Unit Staff supported by Amedysis Hospice Care of Morgantown, WV. If possible, we would name each of you to show our appreciation for the many acts of compassion you administered to our Mother on a daily basis.
There will be no viewing as per Nancy’s wishes, but a greeting of friends will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with her Celebration of Life service to begin at 2:00 PM in the Mount Morris Gospel Tabernacle 103 School Road, Mount Morris, PA 15349 in celebration of Nancy’s homecoming with a family graveside service immediately following.
