She was born February 18, 1919 in Atlanta, LA to Julius Marl Tarver and Volena Melton Tarver. She was a graduate of Winnfield High School. She attended Northwestern State University and McNeese State College. She retired from Sears as a Credit Investigator after 25 years of service.
Viola and her family became members of Gillis Baptist Church in 1947. She delighted in serving her Lord through her Baptist faith, teaching Sunday school, actively participating in the Woman's Missionary Union and being faithful to all church ministries until her illness.
Mrs. Cole was a devoted Mother and Grandmother. She loved her family deeply and was extremely proud of them. Her love, presence, influence and wisdom will be greatly missed.
A Mother strengthens us with her prayers, encourages us with her hope and blesses us with her unending love.
She is survived by two sons, Richard M. Cole and wife, Joyce of Gillis, LA and Wayne Allen Cole and wife, Terri of Dayton, TX; daughter-in-law, Geraldine Cole of Gillis; four Grandchildren, Richard Lynn Cole and wife, Tammy of Gillis, Randy Cole and wife, Angela of Lake Charles, Deborah Cole Seago and husband, Joseph of Lake Charles, Sharon Cole Carter and husband, Allen of Lake Charles; eight Great-Grandchildren; one Great-Great Grandchild; two brothers, James Melton Tarver and wife, Jimmie of Winnfield, LA, Harold Thomas Tarver and wife, Margaret of Winnfield, LA; one sister, Gail Tarver Woodward and husband, Tom of Desoto, TX; one sister-in-law, Nadine Tarver of Chatham, LA and numerous nephews and nieces.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Elbert Richard Cole, parents Julius Marl Tarver and Volena Melton Tarver of Winnfield, LA, brothers, Julius Carol Tarver of Montgomery, LA, Howard William Tarver of Winnfield, LA and Rudolph Edward Tarver of Chatham, LA.
Her Homegoing will be 1pm Monday June 10, 2013 in First Baptist Church of Gillis. Visitation is from 4-9pm Sunday at First Baptist Church of Gillis and will resume Monday 9am until time of service. The Rev. Glenn George will officiate. Burial will be in Creel Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
