Betty Jean Fraley Hall

Betty Jean Hall (Fraley), 85, of Onalaska, Washington, a resilient and adventurous soul, embarked on her final journey April 26, 2023 at Roo Lan Health & Rehab, Lacey, Washington. Betty was born in Welch, West Virginia April 10, 1938 to John Henry Fraley and Vestie Marie Endicott (Fraley). She was the youngest of her siblings, being raised alongside two brothers, Alvery Fraley and Aulborn Fraley. Betty’s early years were marked by the loss of her mother, leading her to relocate to Glenoma, WA.

It was in Glenoma, that Betty’s path crossed with her husband, Charles “Chip” Hall, after he was discharged from the United States Army March 1959. The pair exchanged vows later that year, December 18, 1959 in Morton, WA. Betty and Chip embarked on many adventures living in many places along the West Coast. Throughout their travels, Betty spent a lot of time with Chip’s mother, Margaret and the two quickly became inseparable. Together, Betty and her mother-in-law started a dress shop in Elgin, OR, and later ran a seamstress business in Medford, OR.

Betty’s nimble fingers found solace and joy in knitting beautiful afghans, showcasing her talent and creativity. However, it was during the festive season that Betty’s household truly came alive, with Christmas being a particular favorite. Her cooking was a big hit at their family summer picnics. Her fried chicken, sauerkraut salad, mandarin fluff and coconut cream-pie (passed down from Grandma Shaffer) were some of her most beloved recipes.

Pets held a special place in Betty’s heart and she truly cherished her mink companion named Packrat. Alongside Packrat, a delightful array of dogs including; Taffy, Peewee, Tramp, Rusty, Coco, Popeye, Fritz, Sydney and Keely; farm animals, Billy the Goat, Rooster the Chicken, Mutton the Sheep and countless cats found comfort under her care, making her home a sanctuary for animals.

Remembered as a woman of unwavering determination, Betty took on life challenges in her own unique way. Her strength and independence was inspiring, leaving a mark on the hearts of those around her. A good day’s work was often rewarded with a well-deserved glass of moonshine.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John Henry Fraley and Vestie Marie Endicott; and her brothers, Alvery Fraley and Aulborn Fraley.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Hall, forever holding her memory close.

A celebration of Betty’s remarkable life will be held on May 15, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Brown Mortuary in Morton, Washington. A final, private interment will take place at the Packwood Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brown Mortuary Service, Morton.
