Joyce Ann (Cook) Spurling

Our beloved mom, Joyce Ann Cook Spurling, age 65, of Morganton, went home to be with our Holy Father on Saturday, July 22, 2023. Joyce was born to the late JD Cook and Edna Louise Thompson Cook on March 14, 1958 in Mooresville, NC.

Joyce lived life to the fullest. She had a love for cats, her children, family and of course, coffee. Joyce was straight forward, blunt, no nonsense and strong minded. She was also very kind and caring. Joyce will be missed deeply and dearly by all who knew her.

Along with her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by two sisters, Twyla Jean and Edna Mae Powers, a niece, Jennifer Wilson and a great nephew, Jarred Berdine.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include two daughters, Shannon Cooke Freeman and her husband Tim, and Sierra Spurling, both of Morganton; a son, Sheen Sparks of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, Levi, Lance and Amberly Cooke. DJ Freeman and Emillio and Gabriel Spurling; three great grandchildren, Astrid Laws, Memphis King and Serinity Houpe; and a sister, Jo Carol Tilley and her husband Guy from Conway, SC. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be held privately.

Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton has the honor of serving the family.
