Christopher Wayne DeHart

Chris was the second born of three children. He grew up in Wilkesboro and then moved to Morganton, NC where he attended Freedom High School and graduated in 2008. He enlisted in the US Navy his senior year and attended basic training that August. Upon return from basic training, he married his high school sweetheart, Kirsten, and they were then stationed in Virginia. He was a culinary specialist aboard the USS Enterprise and was onboard for the big E's final tour in 2012. He also served on the Bush. Chris achieved the rank of CS1.

Chris was a loving husband and a father to three wonderful children, ranging in age from 8 to 12. He enjoyed several hobbies, one of which was making custom cakes. Every year he would make his children a themed cake of their choice and he would make specialty cakes for Navy events. He also took up forging and enjoyed making knives and other objects. He participated in playing Warhammer and Magic and was an avid PC gamer. His children would often play those games with him.

He is survived by his wife, Kirsten Dehart; Son, Aiden Landon DeHart, 12; Daughter, Ava Lilith DeHart, 8; Son, Alexander Lyndon DeHart, 8; Mother-in-law Taura Vulcano of Indian Land, SC; Brother-in-Law Chad Sampson of Hickory, NC; Father-in-Law John Sampson of Southwick, MA; Mother-in-law Marie Sampson of Southwick, MA; Brother-in-Law Michael Sampson; Brother James Dunfee of Morganton, NC; Mom Wendy Dunfee of Morganton, NC; Father David DeHart of Winston-Salem; Sister Vanessa DeHart, of Winston-Salem and various other family members.

He was preceded in death by his Mother Wendy Jones and Grandmother Wanda Billings of Wilkes County.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton. Interment will be held with full military honors at 12:00 pm on Friday, September 1, 2023 at the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
