Barbara Sue Holbrook

Barbara Sue Holbrook, age 63, of Valdese, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, January 11, 2023. Barbara was born on December 12, 1959 in Tampa FL to her parents Charles Hubert Starnes and May Catherine Ahern.

Barbara is survived by her son Chris Hume (Kate) and her grandchildren Kendyl, Whisper, Sydney, and Ryder, her siblings, Linda Ale, Chuck Donner (Diane), Robert Starnes (Jill), Helmet Scheibel (Kathrin), Coy Starnes (Teri) and Catie Starnes, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

Barbara served in the US Army for 2 years from 1978 to 1980 as a Sharpshooter and Grenade Specialist and eventually became a nurse in 1987 practicing for over 25 years. She enjoyed time with friends and family, listening to her favorite Alan Jackson songs, a cold Bud Light, and her favorite meal, Steak and a baked potato. Her favorite memories were holiday events and family gatherings full of laughter and love.

After nearly a decade plagued by various illnesses, primarily renal disease, she chose to end her journey on her own terms and end her medical treatments. Finally, she is getting the rest she so desperately needed. She will be missed by many and forever loved by those who knew her.

To honor Barbara, we ask that any interested parties donate any amount they can to the National Kidney Foundation in her name, the organization that aided her for so many years.

A private celebration of life will be held for her immediate family at a later date.
