A loving husband, father and grandfather, Raymond was devoted to his family, especially to his wife Andrea. Together the two created lasting memories in their 58 years of marriage. Dedicated to both his family and his country, Raymond was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, a past Quartermaster of the VFW Post #4222, and a member of the East St. Mary Parish Funeral Squad. Taekwondo was a big part of Raymond's life and he held a 6th degree Black belt in the discipline. In 1989, Raymond founded the Silver Dragon Taekwondo Academy. Raymond was an excellent mechanic and was the proud owner of Starter Service Company which he began in 1973. Both the academy and the company were legacies that Raymond shared and passed on to his own son. An incredibly creative man, Raymond was also known for building numerous models of military ships and building to gift to friends. He also painted beautiful works of art for his family when able. Before his illness, Raymond could often be found among the Acadiana Riders Club of Lafayette, riding his motorcycle and seeing the sights of his beloved country. The family fondly remembers his love of Elvis and the many times he dressed as the King for others. This wonderful man lived life to the fullest and made the greatest of memories, for which he documented each and every one.
Those left to cherish Raymond's beautiful memory are his wife of 58 years, Andrea Fay Juneau Rutledge; Kim Marie Rutledge; Brian Keith Rutledge and his wife, Sunshine; and two grandchildren, Braden Aliska Raffeo and her husband, Jonathan, and Raymond Christian Rutledge. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was reunited in heaven with his parents, Charles and Lily Rutledge; and his siblings, Shirleen Louviere and Claudette Agnes Mouton.
The family requests that a memorial visitation be observed for Raymond on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 8:30am until time of services at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 11am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with entombment following in the Morgan City Mausoleum.
The family would like to express their immense gratitude to Hope Hospice for their loving care of Raymond during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the VFW Post #4222 in memory of Raymond.
