Mrs. Jewell “Judy” D. Wilson, a resident of Prairieville and past long-time resident of Morgan City, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the age of 91.
Judy was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and her husband, Bill, were married for 57 years before he went home to be with the Lord. Judy was the matriarch of her family. She was a beautiful, strong, Godly, always classy, hard-working woman. She leaves behind a legacy of integrity and honor.
Judy’s most important work was done at home, raising her 3 children and taking care of her family, while also working in the commercial insurance industry for many years. She was a faithful servant to the Lord. While in Morgan City, she served at Immanuel Baptist Church and First Baptist Church, and more recently was an active member of Parkview Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. She was a God-fearing woman who strived to set a righteous example for others. She had a great love for her family and a passion for making sure that her family knew Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Judy loved traveling, especially with her mother and her Aunts, who were referred to as “the Golden Girls”. She loved working in her flowerbeds, even until her passing. She spent time reading, studying the Bible, and watching the news. She also appreciated old movies and music. She had a deep love of our country, studying its history, and instilling that patriotism into her family. She was an avid LSU fan and enjoyed attending football and baseball games. Judy loved dogs and welcomed many into her home throughout her life. She looked forward to her morning coffee with a honey bun and a biscuit. Playing with her great-grandchildren brought her so much joy. Judy treasured spending time with her family and friends, and although she is greatly missed, we know she is rejoicing in Heaven reunited with her loved ones.
She is survived by her two daughters, Vicki Wilson Briehn and her husband, Clay, of Prairieville; Cissy Wilson, of Prairieville; her grandchildren, Lauren Briehn Matte and her husband, Jeffrey, of Berwick; Nathan Briehn of Baton Rouge; and Renee Briehn of Gonzales; her great-grandchildren Grace, Emma, Sophie, and Adam Matte of Berwick; and Scarlett and Liam Briehn of Gonzales; and two special friends who were like family, Faye Taylor and Opal Prescott.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian Busby Garretson and Jimmie Sam Darnell; her brother, Troy C. Garretson, Sr.; her husband, Billy R. Wilson; her son, Kenny R. Wilson; and her grandson, Aaron Briehn.
A visitation for Judy will be held Friday, June 28, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Hargrave Funeral Home. Visitation will resume Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 11:00 AM until time of services at 1pm at Hargrave Funeral Home, with graveside services following in the Morgan City Cemetery with the Rev. James Kyle officiating.
