Nixon Enoch Kwaning, who also known as Enoch Sarkodie Kwaning, was born and grew up in the town of Kokofu, Bekwai Municipal District, Ashanti Region, Ghana. Nixon’s parents were John Afarwuah Kwaning and Grace Brago Kwaning. Nixon had 8 siblings and grew up as a Seventh-Day Adventist and closely followed the teachings until his very last day. Additionally, Nixon attended Seventh-Day Adventist Senior High School in Bekwai and Amaniampong Senior High School in Mampong in the 1970s.
Nixon would later immigrate to the United States in the 1980s. It was shared by Mrs. Karen McWilliams that when arriving from Ghana to Chicago to study in the United States, Nixon “only had with him one suitcase in which were a change of clothes and a couple gifts he had brought. Someone had robbed him of his money in New York City, so he had absolutely nothing but that suitcase and the clothes on his back.” Despite these challenges and during his studies in the United States, Nixon went on to complete a Bachelor of Science with the School of Agriculture at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana in 1985, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a minor in Economics from California State University, Bakersfield in 1991, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Health and Human Services from Columbia Pacific University in 1996.
For the majority of his career, Nixon worked diligently for the County of Riverside for over 30 years. Nixon was a dedicated registered nurse and assistant nurse manager, spending most of his career in the Progressive Care Unit at Riverside University Health System – Medical Center (formerly Riverside County Regional Medical Center). Throughout the span of his career, Nixon was known for his dedication and work ethic towards both his colleagues and patients.
Nixon spent a majority of his life living in both Riverside, California and Moreno Valley, California. Some of his very favorite things to do were to sing, dance, listen to lively music, drive around the area in his favorite cars, tend and care to his vibrant, lush garden, and eat yummy foods, most notably Jack in the Box and Chinese takeout.
Nixon always provided unconditional love, support, dedication, and encouragement to his family and friends, no matter the circumstances and no matter what challenges were presented. Nixon is survived by his 7 children: Evans Sarkodie Kwaning, Karen Kwaning, Andrew Kwaning, Weston Chung, Seth Kwaning, Niara Kwaning, and Micayla Kwaning.
His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
