On February 4, 1962, Glenn Allen Poe was born in Los Angeles, California to the proud parents of Elwood Dormond Poe, Sr. and Marlene Poe. He was the youngest of four children—Patricia Ann, Elwood “Woody”, and Deborah. From an early age, Glenn was known for his adventurous spirit and kind-hearted nature. His educational journey began at West Athens Elementary and continued at Henry Clay Middle School. Glenn was a kid who enjoyed being outdoors. He could often be seen riding his 10-speed bike or off-roading in the hills with his older brother.
Inspired by his father's career in aerospace, Glenn pursued an internship at Northrop Grumman during his senior year at Washington High School. After graduating in 1980, he began his professional journey as an automated draftsman. Over the next three decades, he dedicated himself to various top-security military aircraft projects, including the prestigious B-2 Spirit stealth bomber and F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues in the industry.
Glenn's family life was equally rich and fulfilling. He was formerly married to Vela Poe, with whom he welcomed two daughters—Brann and Karyn Poe. As a proud and supportive father, Glenn ensured that his daughters had everything they needed, nurturing their dreams and aspirations with unwavering love and encouragement. As a devoted and supportive father, Glenn was always present—whether dropping his daughters off at soccer practice, attending JROTC drill competitions, or helping sell Girl Scout cookies, he was deeply involved in their lives. In 2014, Glenn welcomed his first grandchild, Lola Elizabeth, and stepped into the role of “Pop-Pop” with great pride.
Bridger Street was literally the house that Glenn built—brick by brick. His home was more than just a place to live; it was his masterpiece, a vibrant gathering spot filled with laughter and joy. Family and friends filled the house each season, especially during the warm summers, when the pool was the centerpiece of endless fun and countless memories. Those sunny days were often accompanied by Glenn’s famous BBQ, soulful tunes, dives in the pool, kids running around, and an abundance of laughter. Those moments—filled with love, joy, and connection—are among the many treasured memories he leaves behind.
In addition to his dedication to family, Glenn also had a passion for photography. He enjoyed perfecting his craft and enhancing his skills while capturing candid moments with family and friends. Through his lens, he preserved the beauty of family, friendships, and celebrations—creating a rich visual legacy for generations to come—many of which are captured in these pages.
Beyond his professional and family commitments, Glenn lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, attending car shows and drag races, going on camping trips with family and friends, and rooting for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Raiders—whether in Los Angeles, Oakland, or Las Vegas—never faltering in his support for the team. At his core, Glenn was a man who genuinely cared for others. Even during difficult times, he prioritized the needs and well-being of his loved ones, always showing up with compassion, humor, and heart.
Glenn was preceded in death by his beloved parents Elwood Dormond Poe, Sr. and Marlene Poe (Alston), cherished grandparents Pastor Cleo Martin Alston and Johnnie Lee Alston (McGraw), grandmother Hazel Mathis (Logan), sister Deborah Green, nephew Lamar Moore, and many aunts and uncles.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and memories cherished by his devoted daughters, Brann Poe (Marcus) and Karyn Williams (Toivo); his precious granddaughter, Lola Elizabeth Poe-Mayo; his brother, Elwood “Woody” Poe; his sister, Patricia Poe; nephews, Charles Green and great-nephew Bryant Green, Kenshon Whitherspoon, Keenan Patton, David Acevedo, Daniel Acevedo, and Miles Willis; nieces Marlene Green, Amber Tatum, Chelsea Tatum, Lauren Willis; and a host of family and friends.
Glenn’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of his cousins, relatives, extended family, and friends.
