Born James Ernest Dawe on May 9, 1935, to Hubert W.G. Dawe and Hazel Moffat, Jim was the youngest of three brothers. He will be sorely missed by his brother Hugh. But we like to think he’s now playing a round, on the perfect day, with his (late) brother Harding.
Jim was a natural born athlete, a football star in his youth and an avid golfer throughout his life. In his prolific sales and publishing career, he took risks, trusting not only in himself but in the people with whom he worked closely – especially his dearest nephew Geoffrey, his daugher Sharon and his wife Danièle.
Jim had a generous heart, and was forgiving to a fault. He was always interested in, and respectful of, other people’s points of view, no matter how different they were from his own. He was also a stylish dresser, a great dancer and a handsome devil.
Jim was a good father and friend to his three children with (the late) Monica Notley – Sharon, Cameron and Linda – and to his stepdaughter, Mélodie. He loved us with all his heart. Losing him has pierced ours.
Jim will be missed by his sons-in-law, John, Ralph, Ace, Sasha and Dale; his daughters-in-law, Diem and Marie-Claude; his granddaughters, Mia and Abigail, and My, Phuong and Thy; his loving nieces and nephews, Heather, Stephen, Geoffrey, Laurie, Ronnie, Ricky, Patti and Shawna, and their families; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; the Herman family; and his many good friends. Everybody liked Jim.
Most of all, Jim will be missed by his wife, lover, partner and best friend for the last 27 years, Danièle Adam. They were a fantastic couple. Jim left this earth on the same day Danièle was born into it, creating an unbreakable bond they will share forever.
The funeral service will be held on Aug. 20, 2016, at 3 pm, at the Chapelle de la Resurrection, 4601 Ch. de la Côte-des-Neiges, in Montréal. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jim’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
