JACOBS, William Donald, D.M.D. died at home after an extended illness on April 23, 2017. He was predeceased by his parents, Willie Dae and Ouida Brown Jacobs of Elba, Alabama. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Latiker Jacobs, his children; Deborah Jacobs Foley (Mike) of Tampa, FL, Ronald Edward Jacobs (Jennifer) of Atlanta, GA and Bruce Alan Jacobs (Mary Beth) of Boca Raton, FL. Survivors also include granddaughters Anne-Marie Jacobs of Athens, GA, Peyton Michelle Foley of Tampa, FL and a step-grandson Dane Michael Kris of Boca Raton, FL. He is also survived by one sister, Virginia Jacobs Shamburger and her family. He was a graduate of Elba High School, Troy University and the University of Alabama School of Dentistry where he later specialized in Orthodontics. He served in the United States Air Force as a dentist. He later moved moved to Pensacola, Florida where he practiced Orthodontics until he retired in 1989. For the duration of his practice, and even after his retirement, he was an active member of the American Association of Orthodontist and the Southern Society of Orthodontist. He served as president of the Pensacola Dental Society and he was recently honored as a past president of the Florida Association of Orthodontist. For many years, he was active in the Gulf Breeze Rotary Club and was named a Paul Harris Fellow for his work and dedication. After retirement, he moved to Montgomery, Alabama and became a member of First United Methodist Church and the Tower Class. He was a kind man, deeply devoted to his family as husband father and grandfather. With a positive attitude and a great sense of humor, he had many friends. His many interests included; golf, quail hunting, fishing, water sports, gardening and traveling with his family and friends. He was an enthusiastic Alabama football fan and attended many games. He will be deeply missed and remembered with love as a true “Southern Gentleman”. Following a private family interment, there will be a Celebration of Life Service at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Karl Stegall and Dr. Jeremy K. Pridgeon officiating. Immediately afterward, there will be a visitation/reception. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church or Stegall Seminary Scholarship Endowment Trust at 2416 W. Cloverdale Park, Montgomery, AL 36106, or to one’s charity of choice.
