Sallie Marks, a true model of unconditional love, passed away in her home on Saturday December 7th. Born on December 19,1940, Sallie was known for her cheerful demeanor and her welcoming spirit to all she knew.
Sallie will lovingly be remembered by her daughter Rhonda Acreman, her son Bobby Dunsmore (Rhonda Gail), her grandchildren Jason Acreman, Alex Acreman, McKenzie Dunsmore, and Brandon Ward, her sisters, Lynda Fry, Fran Luckenbill, and Betty Goss, and her many nieces and nephews. She is joined in rest by her beloved husband Mort Marks, her parents Russell and Ruth Sitler, her grandson Justin Acreman, her sisters Maryanne and Joyce, her brothers, Art, Dick, and Bobby, her son-in-law, Bob Ward, along with many other loved ones throughout her life.
Among Sallie’s most noteworthy accomplishments was raising her two children with whom she remained close, while serving as somewhat of a “second” mom to all of their friends, and later playing a significant role in the lives of her grandchildren. Her civil service career as a secretary found her on Wheeler Air Force Base in Hawaii, the Pentagon, and finally Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery. She elected an early retirement from her career to become “Gram” as she is so endearingly called by her grandchildren.
Among Sallie’s favorite places was her house on Lake Martin where she and Mort established their own “Cloud 9” and where they entertained, loved, and watched their children and grandchildren grow.
Sallie’s legacy is one of unwavering kindness and generosity. Regardless of her health, or own personal needs, she never failed to put others first. Her loss is deeply felt by her family and her memory will live through them and others serving to inspire kindness, resilience, and unconditional love.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 13th, at Alabama Heritage.
