Chief Richard L. Fagan passed away peacefully at his family’s home on Dec 24, 2020 surrounded by his loved ones. Richard was born on January 2nd, 1939 in Pennsylvania to Capt. James Houell Fagan and Trudy Edgar Fagan. His younger years were spent in Falls Church, Virginia in the OSS community. Richard graduated from SeaBreeze High School in Daytona, Florida then joined the Navy. In the Navy he was a diver and an IC man. Afterwards, Richard joined the Montgomery Fire Department on June 1st, 1962 and became a District Chief and Assistant Chief retiring on August 16th, 1983. He truly loved the Fire Department and was a proud Fireman until his last call on Christmas Eve. He was the proud owner of Fagan Pool Service for 56 years with his son and daughter- in- law. Richard was known for friendly smiles to everyone he met. He genuinely loved to talk to people and learn about their lives. He could tell stories you would never forget. He was a true gentleman in every way. His life was truly fulfilled from the Navy, to sports car racing, to fighting fire, to loving his dear wife and family. His, is a soul that will be very missed.
Richard will be joining his wife, Marcia Dobbins Fagan, of 55 years of marriage. They were inseparable and the happiest together.
Richard is survived by his son, Richard David Fagan, daughter- in-law, Angela English Fagan, and beloved granddaughter, Isabella Marie Fagan. He truly loved Angela and Isabella with all his heart. His son, David, was always his pride and joy. They worked together for many years. David continues to own the family business.
Richard and his family extend their deepest appreciation for the family, caregivers and friends that cared for him so beautifully. The Chief was surrounded by friends, family and Firefighters until his last call.Their duty to him was an example to his duty to others.
A visitation is set for Saturday, January 2nd at 12:30 pm at Leak Memory Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 PM in Greenwood Cemetery. Please make any donations to the Montgomery Fire Department.
