Randall Ray Gernenz of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020. Originally from Chicago, Illinois Randy was born on December 16, 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Laura Gernenz, and son Randall S. Gernenz. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Donna Sposato Gernenz; daughter, Renee Gernenz Holmes (Jason); son, Ryan Gernenz (Laney); grandchildren, Lauren and Sean Holmes, Brooklyn, Wyatt, and Riley Gernenz; brother, Dale Gernenz (Darlene); numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.
Randy served in the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War. Upon returning home he started his employment at Rheem Manufacturing. There he worked for 34 years as a Superintendent in both Chicago, Illinois and Montgomery, Alabama. Randy enjoyed many years of retirement with his family on Alabama’s Gulf Coast. He loved to watch his favorite football teams, the Chicago Bears and the Alabama Crimson Tide and follow his favorite baseball team the Chicago White Sox. He loved fishing with his grandchildren, collecting coins, and model trains. He loved music, especially the King, Elvis Presley. He was the happiest when he was spending time with his family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Alabama Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Tony McCullough officiating. A graveside service will follow at 11:30am in Alabama Heritage Cemetery. The family requests that safe social distancing and the wearing of masks is practiced by all in attendance for both services.
