MURPHY, Patrick Joseph, 50, a resident of Pike Road, AL, born July 8, 1963 and passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2014. He was raised primarily in the southeast, and has made Alabama his home for his adult life. Patrick attended the Montgomery Police Academy in 1985, and was a law enforcement officer for the Capital City from 1985 to 1998. He attained the rank of lieutenant. He attended Auburn University at Montgomery, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Alpha Theta academic honor societies. Patrick received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history, with a double minor in psychology and sociology. He graduated from Jones School of Law, where he was named Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, appointed as a board member of the Jones Law Review, was honored with the West Publishing Company Award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement, as well as James J. Carter Scholarship Award for Academic Achievement for graduating first in the law school class of December, 1998. Patrick attended law school while working full time as a law enforcement officer, and left the Montgomery Police Department as the assistant division commander of traffic division when he was appointed as the chief magistrate and municipal court clerk for the Montgomery Municipal Court. He retired from the City of Montgomery in 2009. Patrick joined the Law Offices of Judy Barganier where he is an associate working in areas of family law and criminal defense. He was preceded in death by his parents John E. and Ruth E. Murphy. He is survived by two brothers, Kevin J. Murphy (Debbie), Montgomery, AL; Michael E. Murphy (Mary), Pleasant, UT; one sister, Jacquelyn R. Murphy, Ozark, AL; numerous nieces and nephews, two very special nephews Camden Anderson and Cameron Anderson Murphy. A Celebration of Life service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, 347 N. Ripley Street, with Pastor Baxter E. Morris officiating. Inurnment followed in Alabama Heritage Cemetery. Visitation was held at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. .
