Loving survivors include her husband, Bobby Burton; her sons, John Thomas and Robert McKinney (Mac) Burton; her parents, Harrel and Peggy McKinney; her siblings, Lisa Barnes (Barrie), Tim McKinney (Rick Ashcraft); her nieces, Hillary Barnes, Hannah Murray (Brett), and Hayden Barnes; special aunt Nancy Hubbard (Tom); cousins, Lauren Vinson (Jeremy), Caroline Favor (Drake), Trip Hubbard; and a special mother-in-law, Gloria Burton.
Nicole attended St. James School from kindergarten until she graduated in 1994. She graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education in 2000 and earned a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Auburn University at Montgomery in 2004.
Nicole had a passion for teaching young children. She began her teaching career at Halcyon Elementary followed by Highland Gardens Elementary, Wares Ferry Elementary and Wilson Elementary. She touched many young lives during her career and made many treasured friends at each school.
Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Monday, September 27, 2021, in the Parlor at Frazer United Methodist Church with a service at 3 p.m. Burial will follow at Alabama Heritage Cemetery.
