Born July 7, 1932, in Sneads, Florida, John was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Helen Bodiford Vaughan; parents, John D. Vaughan, Sr. and Eva Morelock Vaughan; sister, Sara Miles, and brother. Samuel Vaughan; stepson, Michael D. Williams; son-in-law, Johnny Beasley.
John graduated from Bay St. Louis High School. After high School he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as an aerial photographer during the Korean Conflict.
In 1957 John graduated from Auburn University School of Engineering.
John started his long career with L&N Railroad and later CSX as an Operation Controller-Supervisor overseeing onsite train derailments, accident investigations and field safety.
John was a Master Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, York Rite and a Shriner. In 2019 he was awarded his 50 year Masonic pin. He was a lifetime member of the Masons and the Shriners.
John enjoyed collecting antiques, repairing collectibles, entertaining friends, Newcomers Club Activities, staying at their Lake Martin lake house, and gardening and growing fresh vegetables and beautiful flowers at his home in Arrowhead, Montgomery, AL.
John is survived by his step-daughter, Joan Williams Beasley; three grandchildren, Bryan Curtis, Orlando, FL, Steve Curtis (Nicole) of Kernersville, NC, Valerie Miklavic (Eric) of Bradenton, FL; three great grandchildren, Shealyn, Riley, and Jaxon Miklavic, all of Bradenton, FL; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Bodiford of Montgomery, AL, and Cherri Vaughan of Pensacola, FL; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held with immediate family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to a charity of your choice.
