PERKINS, James Alonza Sr., (88), of Montgomery, passed away on March 25, 2017. He was born in Eufaula, Alabama on April 3, 1928, the son of Ernest and Nota Hightower Perkins and was one of 11 children. He is survived by his two sons-James (Nancy) Perkins, Jr. and Greg Perkins, both of Montgomery, and one daughter, Marcia Perkins, of Katy, TX.; six grandchildren, Jacqueline Perkins (Will) Hughes, Candice Perkins, Shea Perkins, Christina Perkins, Gregory Perkins, and Elizabeth Perkins, and two great-grandsons, William Hughes IV and Weldon Bear Hughes, and great grand-daughter Mary Winsett Hughes. He is also survived by his sister, Faye Doswell of Abbeville, AL, as well as many nieces and nephews. He retired from Blount, Inc., after serving as Chief Pilot for 30 years. He was a member of QB's, where the world of flying remained a part of his life after retiring. Another passion was his love of the game of golf, which he continued to play weekly up until the past year, at Arrowhead Country Club and in tournaments around the South on the Robert Trent Jones golf trail. He served as Seaman 1st class in the US Navy during World War II, serving on the USS North Carolina battleship. After serving in the Navy, he attended Troy University where he met his future wife, Sally Ann Seaborn of Dothan, AL. Visitation will be at Greenwood Funeral Home on 31 March at 10 am. Funeral services will be held at Greenwood Funeral Home afterwards at 11am with Rev.David McVey. Entombment in the Azalea Mausoleum of Greenwood Cemetery will follow.
