CMSgt (Retired) James Warren Barnes, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 11, 2021. He was called home by his Heavenly Father to eternal rest. James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel Barnes, brother Buddy Barnes (Dorothy), and sisters Sara B Phillips (Jim), and JoAnn Oswalt (Bobby) and Son in Law Chris Soldo. He lost the best wife in the world, Jewel Louise Compton Barnes, who passed in 2019.
James Warren Barnes was born and raised in Holt, Alabama on Sept 23, 1924, to John and Ethel Barnes. He joined the Army after school and was a World War Two vet. He had a long career in the Air Force serving his country, both at home and abroad. He met and married his wife, Jewel Louise Compton in Montgomery Alabama where they eventually retired. He loved the Air Force and his wife of more than 70 years.
James had four children: John R. Barnes (Lucie), Randall W. Barnes, Susan Barnes Feaga (Richard) and Candy Barnes Soldo. Grandchildren include Stephen W Soldo, Amy Barnes Dobbs (Justin), Richard Kemp Feagas, Kimberly Faith Waid-Martin,Kevin Scott Waid, Shana Barnes Hooper (Rhett),Lori Barnes McInerney. Great granchildren include Annabelle Dobbs, Cole and Clint Hooper, and Owen McInerney.
James was passionate about many things, including hunting and fishing, ALABAMA football and gardening, growing and sharing fruit, vegetables and flowers with all. He loved his church and was active in the fellowship until death.
A visitation for Mr. Barnes is set for Wednesday, February 17, 2021 from 12:00 -1:00 pm at Leak Memory Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 pm in Montgomery Memorial Cemetery, 3001 Simmons Drive, Montgomery, AL 36108. Online condolences may be shared at: www.Leak-MC.com
