Jacqueline "Jackie" Morgan

Jackie was born on December 8, 1930 to Oscar and Genie Mae Sexton of Montgomery. One of ten children, as a girl she delighted in walking to the public library. That love of reading would one day propel her to earn her Bachelor’s in Education from Huntingdon, followed by a Master’s degree from Auburn. For 30 years she taught History and English at Goodwyn Junior High where her exacting standards earned her the nickname “Meanie Morgan,” which she didn’t mind a bit.

Jackie married Claxton Morgan in 1946 and soon became the mother to Randall, Pegge, Chris and Robyn. After her divorce, Jackie raised all four children while completing her degrees.

Upon retirement, Jackie was able to devote her time to being a grandmother. She became known as “Granny Jack” to the little people who loved her most and signed hundreds of birthday cards and letters of encouragement with her favorite initials: “GJ."

All were welcome at Jackie’s table, where there was usually a great meal and a rum cake waiting. She loved volunteering in the kitchen at Fraser Church and participating in her Sunday School and bible study classes. But she also loved Waylon Jennings (even though he smoked), a good glass of wine and Dwight Yoakam in his tight jeans. At any family wedding, she was the most memorable dancer.

Jackie loved the Lord and in her last hours declared she had seen Jesus and he was going to take her to the “top of the world.” Her surviving family members take comfort that she is with Him now; if Heaven has a casserole committee, she’s already on it.

Survivors include her son Randall Morgan of Montgomery, daughter Pegge Bell (Tex) of Brandon, Mississippi, daughter Robyn Kenington (Scott) of Montgomery and daughter-in-law Danae Morgan (Chris) of Montgomery. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Brooke Burbach, Reed Coleman, McKenna Tharpe, Tyler Morgan, John Kenington, Christian Morgan, Brandon Morgan, and Jacob Tharpe, along with great-grandchildren Delaney Burbach, Hagen Burbach and Keys Coleman.

Jackie was preceded in death by her beloved son Chris Morgan of Montgomery, and in her final days looked forward to their spiritual reunion.
