Edith Claire Holcombe Hughes, age 85, passed away on March 5th, 2018, after a brief illness. She was the daughter of Roy H. Holcombe and Evelyn S. Holcombe. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Byron Lavaughn Hughes.
Survivors include her sister, Gwen H. Kearley, and her aunt, Addie B. Brown. Mrs. Hughes had six daughters and one son. Patricia Gail Hawkins, Beverly Ann Williams, Debra Jean Forbus, Karen Denise Sims, Julie Carol Miller and her husband Cliff, John Labon Hughes, and Jennifer Marie LeMaster and her husband Keith. Mrs. Hughes has thirteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.
Mrs. Hughes was a longtime Sunday School teacher and faithful member of Eastdale Baptist Church of Montgomery, Alabama.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 8th, 2018 at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home from 9:00 to 10:00 am. Celebration of Life Service will begin at 10:00 am with Rev. Bruce Molton officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Alabama Heritage Cemetery.
