Charles Edward Wilson, age 76, of Millbrook, AL, passed away on July 11 after an extended and hard-fought battle with cancer. Born on March 19, 1948 in Montgomery, AL, Charles was the beloved son of Minnie Ruth Brooks and Edward Garvin Wilson.
Charles served in the United States Army with a deployment in Vietnam. Throughout his life, he built a tremendous 29-year career in banking as a lending Vice President. A true relationship-builder, he was known to offer opportunities for so many throughout the community.
Charles shared 25 years with his loving wife, June. He provided his family a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Charles was the proud father to Lara Wilson of Prattville, AL and Amy Wilson of Dallas, GA. He was stepfather to Brandon (Dana) Marvin of Prattville, AL. He was the adored grandfather of Wilson Pierce Lewis. He was step grandfather to Sofia, Bane, and Malia Marvin.
Charles was a dedicated member of New Hope Baptist Church where he was known for his generosity to Lottie Moon Ministries and numerous other charitable causes.
As a life-long hunter and avid fisherman, Charles was frequently found near water, most often along the Gulf Coast. He organized many fishing trips for friends and family and helped teach young people how to perfect his favorite craft.
In his younger years, Charles played football and basketball, but excelled in baseball. Coached by his father, he began his love of the game as a little league player and went on to be a star pitcher for Lanier High School. Charles ended his baseball career in a semi-pro league. He was a dedicated Braves baseball fan and Alabama football fan.
Charles enjoyed gardening, cooking, and grilling. He frequently brought fresh produce and treats from his grill for his family and friends to enjoy.
He will be remembered for his unwavering love and dedication to his friends and family. His kindness, generosity, and service to others were a testament to his character and left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Charles is survived by his wife, June; his daughters Lara and Amy; his stepson Brandon; his grandson Wilson Pierce; his step grandchildren Sofia, Bane and Malia; his sisters Sue Whitehurst and Janet Brantley; his brother Pete; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Minnie Ruth Brooks and Edward Garvin Wilson.
