Carmen M. Melton passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 13, 2021 at the age of 95. She was born July 16, 1925 in Aztec, New Mexico the daughter of Ramon and Cecila Martinez. She was raised with her brother and three sisters.
She moved to California to help in the war effort in an airplane plant during WW2. She married David Keith Melton in San Bernardino, California on July 25, 1944. He was a Marine and was awarded a Purple Heart as the result of an enemy gunshot wound in battle in Iwo Jima.
They moved to Montgomery, Alabama and raised a family of four boys. She was a long-time owner of Calrene’s Beauty Salon in Montgomery but she later sold the shop and worked at Cinderella’s Beauty Shop. She was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church until it closed. She joined Eastern Hill Baptist Church after that. She was a member of the Crump Senior Center where she enjoyed playing cards with a group there. She was a long-time volunteer at Baptist East Hospital where she helped make teddy bears for their newborns.
Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by her husband, David K. Melton and son Kenneth Lee Melton. She is survived by her sister, Victoria Muniz; her sons, David James (Judy) Melton, Gene Raymon (Sylvia) Melton, and Richard Allen (Teresa) Melton. Carmen also leaves behind her grandchildren: Ashley (Scott) Arnold, Jennifer (Travis) Pannell, Lindsay (Donnie) Spears, Clint (Annelie) Melton, Gabriel (Jackson) McDuffie, Hannah Melton, David Terrell (Sylvia) Melton, Joshua (Katie) Melton, Heath Melton, Jonathan Melton, and her great grandchildren: Brandon and Bailey Arnold, Ashtyn and Tyler Pannell, Alex and Adam Melton, Cory, Hannah, Zachary and Ashley Melton, Conor Spears, Brandon, Emily, Alana, and Layla Melton to cherish her memory.
In lieu of flowers, Carmen would like for donations to be made to her Sunday School Class.
