Anna Mary Strickland, 97, a longtime resident of Montgomery, passed peacefully at her home on August 4th, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents Maxim and Margaret Greski, siblings John and Catherine, and her husband James E. Strickland. She is survived by her sons, Edward Strickland (Darlene Tate) and Michael Strickland (Tammy), her grandchildren Jenny Lou Browning (Josh), James Thomas Strickland (Meghen), Anna Elana Strickland (Tim Eakin), and her many great-granchildren Sadie Layne and James William Strickland, Paul Skinner (William), Isaiah, Elias, and Mayleigh Eakin.
Anna was born in Leominster, MA on February 3, 1924. In 1944, she met the love of her life, James, at a USO dance in Boston, MA during his service with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. After spending several years in Fitchburg, MA, Anna and James moved to Montgomery, AL where she worked at Barber's Dairy as a bookkeeper for 28 years. She was also active in the American Legion and a volunteer at Baptist Hospital as a Pink Lady.
Anna was a member of Our Lady Queen of Mercy Catholic Church and had a unwavering devotion to the Catholic faith that served as an inspiration to all. This is best exemplified by her 68 year marriage to James, a bond that was unbreakable and what she considered her greatest accomplishment besides her family.
Anna was loved by all she knew. We extend our thanks to everyone who has been in her life assisting in her home over the last few years including Lana Grier, Mary Loftin, and her daughter-in-law Tammy.
Anna will be laid to rest next to her husband James in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 10th 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Mercy Church on Wednesday, August 11th, at 10:00 AM with a graveside service following at Greenwood Cemetery.
