Ann Blackmon Thompson

Ann Patterson Blackmon Thompson, Mai to those closest to her, passed away on September 8, 2022 at home with family by her side. Her 95 years were filled with an unyielding faith in God, selflessly caring for her family, including many beloved pets, and pursuing her passion for teaching. She will be remembered for her grace and strength of character as evidenced by the way she lived her life. She often and freely expressed gratitude for each and every day, always giving God the glory.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilkie Hugh Thompson, Jr. and parents, Charles Sanders and Katherine Patterson Blackmon. She is survived by her daughters Ann Thompson Rittenour (Jim) and Susan Thompson Davidson (Peter); grandchildren, Rebecca Rittenour Stianche (Hunter), James Marion Rittenour, III (Jordan), Elizabeth Ann Davidson, and Allison Rittenour Crennan (James); her sister Katherine Blackmon Camp (Claude); and many loving nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their deepest love and gratitude to Jackie Banks who provided excellent care and support during her later years.

She was born and lived in Montgomery, AL. She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Huntingdon College and a Master of Education degree from Auburn University. She worked for the Montgomery Public School System for over thirty years teaching Speech, English Literature, American Literature, Drama and Debate at Robert E. Lee High School and Sidney Lanier High School. She was transferred to Jefferson Davis High School upon its opening in 1968 to help establish the Guidance Office and remained there until she retired.

Ann was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Tower Sunday School class for over 65 years.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 2416 West Cloverdale Park, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2022. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Reception Room. A private graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2022. Memorial gifts may be given to First United Methodist Church designated for the Joseph Ministry or Respite Ministry.
