Mrs. Alberta Howard McCaster as the sixth of twelve children, born April 4,1923 in Troy, Alabama to the late George Howard and Louizer Ethridge Howard. She graduated from Loveless High School in 1945 after attending to her mother who passed away from cancer.
In 1945, she met and married the love of her life the late Willie Van McCaster and settle in Montgomery. And from this union two children were born.
She has been a member of Mount Zion A.M.E Zion for over sixty plus years. She was a member of the Culinary Ministry. She shared her culinary skills by preparing meals for the annual conferences, repasses, and the sick and shut-in. For several years she volunteered with Mt. Zion’s Food Bank. Although Mrs. McCaster never obtained a driver’s license, she never missed an opportunity to serve those in need.
She graciously offers her companionship to the elderly, sick and the grieving. Mrs. McCaster was constantly reaching to her neighbors and community to help make a difference with a smile, share wisdom and above all Love.
She continues to open her home and heart to members of her family, church and community. She demonstrated her walk with the Lord in her actions. She always nurtured her personal relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in her daily meditation and reading of the Bible. This practice kept her grounded in the assurance of knowing that “God will make a Way.” Therefore, she was able to walked in faith so she can serve and love others with an open heart, kindness, humility, dedication and commitment and most of all compassion.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Van McCaster, parents, George and Louizer Howard, sisters, Mae Gertha Boswell, Cannie Mae Wright, Annie Bell Kendrick, Millie Ann Thomas; brothers, George Howard, Jr, James Howard, Herman Howard, and William Howard,
Her memories will be cherished by her daughter, Grace McCaster Daniels, Cincinnati, Ohio; son Willie Herman McCaster (Tammi) Allen, Texas; granddaughter, Tierra McCaster, Richardson, Texas. Sisters: Mary Emma Reddock, Detroit, Michigan; Lessie Mae Wilson, Enterprise, Alabama; brother: Ewell Howard (Annie Ruth) Pensacola, Florida. One sister-in-law Flora Howard, Detroit, Michigan. Several nieces that took care of her: Mae Lois Jones, Middletown, Ohio; Margaret Thomas, Lillie Smith ( Hiawatha) Montgomery, Alabama; Hester Simpson, Loganville, Georgia; Mittie Harper (Anthony) of Middletown, New Jersey; Robin McCaster Waiters (Elie), Marion McCaster, Hostina McCaster Parnell, Teresa McCaster, Loretta McCaster all of Toledo, Ohio. Nephew Freddie Hogan, Loganville, Georgia. Great nieces Dr. Tonja Exford, Marcita Hill (Maurice), Dr. Angela Davis (Henry), Dr. Abifee Thomas, Great nephews Terrald Thomas (Lisa), Clarence ( Jay) Thomas Jr. ( Tracy), Lourenzo Jones. Great, Great grands Mitchell Exford, Lily, Lourdes, and Chandler Exford. A host of nieces, and nephews. Life time of devoted neighbors and friends such as: Santina Jenkins, Brenda Parks, Carrie Bruce, Nora Agee, Corrine Carter, Faye Henry, Phyllis Rankin, Nellie Rankin and Sonja Moffett .
A family and friends' visitation for Alberta will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM.
