Peggy McMurry Moody

Peggy was born and raised in Beech Bluff, TN through high school where she was an outstanding student and played basketball. She was a devoted wife and mother first and later worked several years as a clerk at Strickland’s Department Store and as an assistant for the Farmer’s Home Administration in Columbiana. Most recently she was a resident of Hidden Acres Assisted Living in Chelsea.

Her lifelong love of her Lord, her family and her friends were exemplified daily in her kind and thoughtful spirit, always accompanied by that radiant smile. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents Jesse Howard and Thelma Ruth Alexander McMurry, husband Jackie Leon Moody, son Thomas Leon Moody, sisters Mary Margaret Smith, Evelyn Irene Harper, and brothers William Travis “Bud” McMurry, Danny Howard “Dan” McMurry.

She is survived by her daughter Loretta Moody Hawkins (Tim) and her son Timothy Howard Moody (Holly), her sister Nettie Ruth Shelton, grandchildren Harmony Moody Cesnick (Nolan), Haley Moody Alves (Daniel), Brandon O’Neal Hawkins (Sarah), Kimberly Brooke Hawkins Davis (Andy), Stephen Leon Moody (Erin), Daniel Keith Moody (Kelly), Bethany Rachel Moody (Andy), 9 great -grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Peggy will be held Friday, October 18, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo), 3715 Highway 25, Montevallo, Alabama 35115 with her funeral service to begin at 10:30 AM. A committal service will follow at 11:45 AM at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, Alabama 35115.

Dr. Scott Fowler will officiate.

In lieu of flowers donations are being requested in her memory for the American Red Cross and Samaritan's Purse for Hurricane Helene and Milton recovery efforts.
