Keith Aaron McCoy

Keith Aaron “Cowboy” McCoy, age 56, died on July 24, 2020. He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1963, but grew up in the South having lived in Virginia, North Carolina, and Alabama – and graduating from Montevallo High School in 1983.

He was known for his loving, compassionate heart and amazing commitment as a volunteer firefighter and EMT in the community. He was a life-long member of the Montevallo Fire Department having started with the first Secondary program at age 14. His professional calling of service included a long career as an Emergency Medical Technician with Hank’s Ambulance, Regional Paramedical Services (RPS), and Southeast Shelby Rescue as well as an officer with the Montevallo Police Department.

He was recognized by his community and peers often over the years including 1981 Outstanding Secondary Fireman Award, 1995 Bill Pendleton Fireman of the Year Award, 2001 S.M. Mahan, Jr. Award and his 35 Year Service award with Montevallo Fire & Rescue in 2019.

He is preceded in death by his father Frank McCoy. Beloved by his family, he is survived by his mother, Lucille, brothers Kevin and Brent; daughters Brittney (Frankie) Fowler and Courtney (Daniel) Goodwin; grandsons Jakob & Mason Fowler and a host of family and friends.

A memorial service is scheduled for the family at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 1st at Rocko Funeral Home in Montevallo, AL. The Rev. Eric Murray of Shades Valley Lutheran Church will officiate.

A Fireman’s Procession and Graveside Service is scheduled for 2:00 PM. The procession will start at the Montevallo Fire Department and continue through town to Montevallo Cemetery. Members of the community and friends are welcome to join the graveside service. Please remember to social distance as much as possible and wear a mask.
