James "Jim" Turner Gibson III

James "Jim" Turner Gibson III, age 74, of Montevallo, Alabama passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023. Son of Wallace Clifton Gibson, Sr. and Gladys M. Gibson of Birmingham, Alabama, he was named after his uncle, James Turner Gibson II and his grandfather, James Turner Gibson I. Jim served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired from the UAB Police Department. Jim was a tattoo enthusiast and avid motorcycle rider. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. Most of all, he loved his family and will be truly missed.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Shirley Gibson; daughters, Christina Gibson-Kirk (Chris) and Christy Taylor (Randall); grandchildren, Brianna Tindall, Alana Bottsford, Joshua Peek, Christopher Kirk, Fox Kirk, Madeline Kirk, Brandon Taylor and James-Asher Kirk; brother, Wallace "Wally" Gibson, Jr. (Helen); sister, Jett Brooks (John); and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Jim will be held Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home, 3715 Highway 25, Montevallo, Alabama 35115 with the funeral service to begin at 12:00 PM. A committal service will follow at 1:15 PM at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Highway 119, Montevallo, Alabama 35115. Guests are invited back to Rockco Funeral Home immediately after for a catered reception.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial donations be directed to his wife to be used toward medical and final expenses.
