Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Burr and Ethel Harris, eight brothers and sisters, James William Harris, Mary Ellen Harris Allen, Harvey Samuel Harris, Virgil Harris, Aaron Burr Harris, Sarah Vandora Harris Bunch, Joseph Eugene Harris, and Joyce Kathleen Harris Haynie, and most recently her loving husband of 48 years, Morris Lee Holcomb.
Left behind to cherish her memory is her daughter, Michelle Holcomb Joiner (David), stepdaughter Linda Gail Holcomb Dockins (Joe), stepson Gary Lee Holcomb (Donna), grandchildren Kerry Allen Joiner, Stephen Harris Joiner, James Clint Skidmore, Dustin Lee Skidmore, Jessica Marie Holcomb Rogers, Cory Lee Holcomb, and a host of other family and friends.
Betty Joan graduated from Montevallo High School then went on to attend the University of Montevallo for two years before beginning work in the Records Office at the University. She continued working in that office until she retired in May 1984. After spending time enjoying retirement, she went back to UM on a part-time basis in various administrative roles. Full time retirement came in 1993 and she became more active in the church and community, filling various service roles at Montevallo First Baptist Church, where she was an active member for over 60 years. She also did volunteer work with the Church and Community Ministries of the Shelby Baptist Association well into her 80s.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 21, 2022 at 10:00 am at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo), followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Montevallo City Cemetery.
Betty had a true servant’s heart and the impact of her kindness and generosity has been wide-ranging. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, and her sweet spirit will be sorely missed.
