Vivian Prevedel of San Gabriel California, died peacefully at the age of 95 years old on Thursday, August 31, 2023.
She was born in Superior, Wyoming on December 08, 1927, the daughter of Angelo and Noemi Prevedel and best friend of younger sister Barbara Prevedel. She graduated from Superior High School in 1945 and began college at the University of Cheyenne. After several years of study, she opted to leave Wyoming and move to California to join her sister, Barbara.
She was mother many times to Debbie Rice, Patti Clarke, and Michael Burns. Even in her retirement years, Vivian actively nurtured and helped raise our children, Ashley, Bradley, and Sera in a grandmotherly manner.
She was a tireless woman who had a long and rewarding career at the Alhambra Public Library that spanned four decades. She retired on June 28, 1992, from her position as the Supervisor of Technical Services. Vivian had a quest for knowledge, exhibited by her deep love of reading. During her working years she was very active in the community as a member of the Alhambra Soroptimist chapter for over a decade and served as President. During her tenure. she mentored girls and women in the community.
Blessed with good health, following her retirement, she traveled extensively both in the U.S. and abroad. She was an avid traveler and loved the adventure of exploring new cultures and places. She and Barbara traveled the world together. In retirement they realized their long-held dream of owning a second home in the mountain community of Lake Arrowhead. Here our entire family was able to spend many memorable holidays and experience California’s four seasons fully.
Vivian was a true Italian woman through and through. She loved spaghetti and meatballs, favored a great glass of Merlot, and enjoyed a good scoop of spumoni ice cream, especially the chocolate part. She thoroughly treasured all types of music from opera to Dixieland jazz. In her early adolescence she enjoyed playing the accordion which deepened her connection to her Italian heritage. Her quiet demeanor fell away when in the company of close family and friends. She was known to be quite sassy, fiery, and a true jokester.
A committed philanthropist she was a woman with a gentle spirit who always championed for the less fortunate by supporting a variety of charities. Those most endeared to her heart were organizations which cared for and aided animals especially the San Gabriel Humane Society. Throughout her lifetime she was never without a pet whether that be cats or a dog. She adored all her feline friends with the last one, Zoey, pre-deceasing her by only a few months.
Her family will miss her dearly. We are grateful that she was able to enjoy a long, happy, and fulfilling life surrounded by people who loved her. We all look forward to being reunited in the next life.
Her Celebration of Life will be held at Live Oak Mortuary and Memorial Park on Friday, December 08, 2023, at 12 noon. Her family looks forward to sharing memories and commemorating the life of this remarkable woman.
