Emma Pumala, 98, of Monroe, WA, suffered a fall April 30 and passed away May 4, 2017, at Providence Hospice in Everett.
Emma was born September 26, 1918, in Roseberry, Idaho, to George and Bessie Sult. She moved to Longview, WA, in 1937 and a year later married Cecil “Tuffy” McCormick. They had two sons: Monty and Gary. Tuffy died in 1959.
Emma and C. B. “Rob” Robbins were married from December, 1964, to December, 1974.
Emma worked at Long-Bell/International Paper for 20 years, retiring in 1981.
In 1984, Emma married Rafael “Ruff” Pumala of Kalama, WA. They enjoyed traveling and life in Longview until his death in 2010. In 2012 she moved to Monroe, WA, closer to family.
Emma enjoyed her family and many hobbies: crocheting, reading, gardening, making candy, dressing up and dancing. She and Ruff made an elegant pair on the dance floor.
She was an active member of Longview Emmanuel Lutheran Church until her move to Monroe where she joined the First Presbyterian Church of Snohomish.
In addition to her sons, Monty (Pat) of Sammamish and Gary (Aina) of Snohomish, WA, Emma is survived by 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Tuffy, Ruff, and his daughter, Sharon Pumala Rasmussen predeceased her.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 10, at First Presbyterian Church of Snohomish at 4:30 p.m. A short committal service will be held at Longview Memorial Gardens, June 15th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Providence Hospice of Snohomish County: PHHC Foundation, Snohomish County; 2731 Wetmore Avenue, Suite 500; Everett, WA 98201.
