Shirley was a longtime resident of Union County. In her earlier years, she was a military wife and traveled extensively with her family. Shirley loved flowers and spending time in her beautifully landscaped gardens. She was also an accomplished seamstress. Shirley loved the times she spent at the beach, whether it was visiting or the years she spent as a full time resident. Shirley loved her church, Bible Baptist Tabernacle and she loved the Lord.
Shirley is predeceased by her husband, Billy Ray Helms; grandson, Joseph Brent Keziah and siblings, Buddy Flynn, Sonny Flynn, Sammy Flynn, Lois Stegall, DorisYarborough and her infant brother, Deany Flynn.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail (Mitch) Martin; son, Randy Helms; grandchildren, Brian (Tanya) Keziah, Justin (Christine) Keziah, Mathias Helms and Amzie Helms and great-grandchildren Kylie Keziah, Aidan Keziah and Adalynn Keziah.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Monroe Square for the all the love and excellent care they provided.
Due to Covid restrictions, the family will have extended visitation hours on Friday, February 26, 2021 from 12:00 noon until 7:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Bible Baptist Tabernacle, 2900 Walkup Ave, Monroe, NC 28110.
