Mr. Jack Hilton, 92, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 22, 2017 from Carolina’s Health Care-Union. Jack was born July 16, 1924 in Union County, son of the late Ben T. and Myrtle Conder Hilton. He was preceded in death by five siblings: L. B. Hilton, Marvin Hilton, Bill Hilton, Aris Hilton and Betty H. Thomas. He was a partner of Hilton and Helms Accountants for 50 plus years, a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church since 1949, a Lay speaker with the Albemarle United Methodist Church where he served the three-point charge of Midway, Smyrna and Trinity United Methodist churches from 1967 to 1969.
Jack was known as the official “hugger” of Mt. Carmel UMC, where he wore this recognition like a badge of honor. For as long as he was able, he arrived early for church every Sunday morning so that he could “work” the front porch, greeting and talking to everyone who attended. Jack was also a WWII Navy veteran. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, January 24, 2017 from six until eight P.M. at the McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. Services to celebrate Jack’s life will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at three P.M. at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church with Reverend Talbot Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Hazel Helms Hilton, Children, Karen Goodfellow (Mick) of Monroe, Ginger Ufland of Monroe, Robert “Eddie” Hilton (Robin) of Midland, grandchildren, Elizabeth Hilton and Katie Hilton and sister, Geneva H. Thomas of Charlotte.
