Johnnie Douglas (Ducky) Hill, 85, of Monroe, peacefully passed away Monday, June 26, 2017 with his family by his side. He is now fully healed and celebrating new life in heaven. He was born April 6, 1932 in Waxhaw, N.C. to the late Johnnie and Kate Hill. Ducky was retired from the United States Postal Service where he carried the mail for 38 years. His customers could always count on a bright smile and warm hello with every letter delivered. On his route, the children at Benton Heights Elementary would always want to know his weather prediction for snow in the winter. They simply wanted to know if they would have a snow day. He was a retired Master Sergeant of the United States Army. He proudly and faithfully served his country for 39 years.
In addition, he was a dedicated member of Benton Heights Presbyterian Church serving in many capacities including Deacon, Elder, Men’s Fellowship, Tape Ministry and joyfully singing God’s praises in the choir. Through his caring spirit, he regularly visited people in their homes, in hospitals and nursing facilities. He touched every corner of his world sharing kindness, smiles and hugs with everyone he met. He never met a stranger and loved reminiscing about life. He treasured spending special time with his granddaughters. One of his favorite past times was connecting with creation taking pride in having a beautiful landscape.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Doris Cornelius and Betty Bellew and granddaughter Jaynie Williams.
Family members include wife of 61 years, Coleen M. Hill of Monroe; daughter, Donna Hill of Charlotte; son, Kyle Hill and wife, Angie, of Indian Trail; granddaughter, Kinsey Hill and many other family members and dear friends.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Hill will be 11:00am Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Benton Heights Presbyterian Church with the family receiving friends following the service.
