Born on July 8, 1933, to the late Dock T. and Hattie Baker, Dorothy, who also went by Dot, was a wonderful and faithful wife of 70 years to her late husband, Marvin, and the best mother to her family which she dearly loved. She was a homemaker and worked as a seamstress. She also worked as a picture framer before her retirement which she thoroughly enjoyed doing. Dot was a great cook, loved her gardening, and enjoyed flower arranging. She also enjoyed crafts and is fondly remembered for her beautiful lace angels. Dot was also a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she faithfully served as a Sunday School Teacher and choir member for many years.
Along with her parents, Dot is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Brooks; brothers, Wayne, R.C., Aaron, and Gene Baker; sisters, Sarah Baker, Louise McClain, Grace Riggins, Ruth Yarborough, Willie Eudy, and Betty Pressley; and grandson, Brandon Keziah. She is survived by her 7 children; Rhonda Anspach of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Sylvia Keziah, Benita Watts (Byron), Randy Brooks (Mandy), Steve Brooks (Cathy) and Eddie Brooks, all of whom are of Monroe, North Carolina, and Ryan Brooks (Mark) of Atlanta, Georgia. She was blessed with 15 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her brothers, Jimmy Baker and Smith Baker; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, located at 6907 Gus Eubanks Rd., Monroe, North Carolina. A funeral service to celebrate Dot’s life will be held following the visitation at 2:15 pm with burial immediately following the service at Lakeland Memorial Park.
