She was born November 26th, 1933 in Union County to the late E.G. and Loma Helms Cunningham.
She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Lorraine C. Phifer (L.T.) and Annie Vaughn Cunningham; and by her loving husband of 60 years, Arnold W. Smith.
Dollie was loved by her family and friends. Even though she had no children, she loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. She attended Unionville School, but she graduated from Benton Heights School in 1951 after her parents moved to the city. After graduation, she began her lifelong career at Southern Bell Telephone Company in Charlotte, North Carolina where she retired in 1981. She loved the Lord, and was a faithful member of Lee Park Baptist Church. She cherished her many friendships with her co-workers, neighbors, friends at Chick-fil-A, Union Park, and Lee Park Baptist Church.
A visitation will be on Tuesday, November 12th, 2024 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street in Monroe, North Carolina. The family will not be present at the visitation. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 13th, 2024 at 11:00 am in the Worship Center at Lee Park Baptist Church, located at 2491 Morgan Mill Rd., Monroe, North Carolina. A graveside service will then follow immediately after at Lakeland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Lee Park Baptist Church or Lee Park Prep School; 2491 Morgan Mill Rd., Monroe, North Carolina, 28110.
