Born on October 23, 1934 in Monroe, North Carolina, David was a hard working individual who served as both a brick mason and brick layer. He had many hobbies in his life including fishing, boating, and gardening. He was a proud member of the NRA and enjoyed collecting guns and knives. He also loved watching NASCAR and wrestling.
David is preceded in death by his parents, C.H. and Mary Ann Long; son, Terry Dean Long; brothers, Richard Long and James Long; sister, Francis Shrader; grandsons, Aaron Long, Tony Riskus, Michael Seibel, Tommy Hodges; and lifelong companion and special friend, Shirley Robinson. He is survived by his children, Kathryn Long, David Long (Jan), Melonie Dixon (Edward), Melinda Torreyson, Tina Long, and Bobby Long; 22 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina. A service to celebrate his life will be held after the visitation at 2:00 pm in the McEwen Colonial chapel with Rev. Jeff Whitecotton officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Lakeland Memorial Park.
