Curtis W Starnes

He left behind his wife of 65 years, Jimmie Smith Starnes; one daughter, Matrell Grismer and husband Tim Grismer of Monroe; one son, Derwin Starnes and wife Christie Tetlow Starnes also of Monroe; one grandson, Dane Grismer and wife Kathleen Hall Grismer of Raleigh; one granddaughter, Sarah Starnes of Monroe; one great grandson, John Grismer of Raleigh.

Wayne was a Veteran of the Korean War, honored in service with a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He spent much of his time in the garden, sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He enjoyed raising cattle and any chance to drive his Farmall Cub tractor.

Visitation will be Sunday afternoon, June 11, 2017 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. Funeral services will begin at 3:00pm in McEwen’s Colonial Chapel. Interment will be immediately following the services in Lakeland Memorial Park.

In honor of his service to our country memorials may be made to the DAV, Disabled American Veterans, 625 New Bern Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27601.
