Thomas departed this life on January 9, 2024, surrounded by loved ones in Sun City Center, Florida.
Born on August 22, 1937, in Bridgeport to Bill and Helen Gagner, Thomas attended Central High School in Bridgeport, CT. On November 19, 1963, he united in marriage with his beloved wife, Theresa DeMonte, in Bridgeport. Thomas dedicated over 20 years of his life to service as a Tillerman for the Bridgeport Fire Department, ultimately retiring as a Lieutenant. His unwavering commitment and bravery were recognized by the Fire Department through the awarding of several silver stars. During the Vietnam era, Thomas also served honorably in the U.S. Army.
Prior to his retirement to Florida, Thomas was an avid boater and fisherman. The Miamogue Yacht Club was a frequent setting for his maritime adventures, as he enjoyed navigating Long Island Sound multiple times a week.
Thomas's love for his family knew no bounds. His extensive mechanical knowledge was generously applied to working on family vehicles, and he willingly contributed to building additions and remodeling homes. Thomas's steadfast presence offered invaluable assistance to his family whenever they were in need.
Thomas is preceded in death by his loving wife, Teresa DeMonte Gagner, his grandson Steven Gagner, his daughter-in-law Carol Gagner, three brothers Bill Gagner, Jack Gagner, and Donald Gagner, and four sisters Gloria Jordan, Mary Arvidson, Carol Serafin, and Josephine Burns.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Gagner, his son Thomas Gagner Jr., his son Todd Gagner Sr. and his partner Tiffany Eastman, his sister Barbara Parrish, his grandchildren Jessica Lowe, Thomas Gagner 3rd, and Todd Gagner II, as well as his great-grandchildren Melody, Caleb, Jenson, Grayson, Jomar, and Jariel. Additionally, Thomas leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
In honoring the memory of Thomas W. Gagner Sr., we celebrate a life dedicated to service, family, and the pursuit of passions. May he rest in eternal peace.
A visitation for Thomas will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son, Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, Connecticut 06468. Following the visitation will be an entombment at St. Michael's Cemetery, 2205 Stratford Avenue, Stratford, Connecticut 06615.
