Kenneth Allan Gurin

Kenneth Allan Gurin, 73, of Shelton, passed away peacefully on November 22 at home. Born on November 1, 1951, in Manhattan, NYC, New York, and growing up in Merrick, New York, he was the son of Robert and Natalie Gurin.

He was a graduate of Merrick High School and received his bachelor's degree at Hofstra University and his master's degree at Baruch College. He worked in the pharmaceutical and market research industries and then followed his passion of helping the elderly. He owned and operated a successful Comfort Keepers franchise, providing in-home care for seniors for 15 years, before retiring in 2017.

He leaves behind Mark Larsen, his companion; Jason Gurin, his nephew, and his daughter Diedra; Kelly Fugate, his niece, her husband Joshua, and their children Gabriella and Asher. He also leaves behind several dear friends and his beloved canines Sunny and Shirley. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Gurin, and his parents, Natalie and Robert Gurin.

His commitment to volunteering and charitable contributions leaves a legacy of lives changed positively forever. For example, for many years he provided toys to Bridgeport Hospital’s Children’s Unit; he was a board member for TEAM, focusing on vulnerable at-risk people; President of the Connecticut Chapter of the National Private Duty Association; and participated in the Interagency Council on Aging. He was particularly fond of contributing to charitable organizations focusing on children, seniors, dogs, cancer, and heart research.

He also enjoyed time with his family, traveling, the beach, gardening, photography, socializing with his friends, and spending time with his dogs.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, including those he shared late nights with, those he showed up late to, friends of late, and those he was too late for amends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Amici’s, 500 Howe Avenue, Shelton, CT, on Sunday, December 15th. It will be casual, up-beat, and drop-in between 1-4 p.m. with food and drinks.
