He was born in Jamaica, Queens to Emma Arlene and Thomas Hamilton Foley in June, 1940. John was a loving family man who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was formerly a dedicated and decorated teacher and Department Chair at Burr Junior High School in Commack, NY. He loved teaching and was proud of the positive feedback he received from the children in his class and from his co-workers. He was an auxiliary member of the US Coast Guard and volunteered his time as a fireman in East Quogue, Long Island.
He enjoyed going out in his boat on the Long Island Sound and the Great Peconic Bay, and going fishing and clamming. He loved to travel to near and far places and was always planning a trip. He was an amateur photographer who took many pictures to chronicle his travels. John was an old school kind of guy, who loved to spend time with his grandkids, he loved trivia, and he enjoyed chatting it up with anyone he met. John was an all around good guy and his children have lost both a parent and a good friend. John is dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, and his three children Jamie Foley (husband, Thomas), Timothy Foley wife, Kathleen) and Thomas Foley (wife, Missy). John is survived by his sister Carol Stephenson of North Carolina, and several grandchildren (Courtney, Kaitlin, Shawn, Charlotte, Seamus, Fiona, Nora, Caelie) as well as two great grandchildren (Grant and Charlie), and his great niece (Ashley) and great nephew (Jesse).
