Jane F. Matson, age 85, a longtime Monroe resident died peacefully at her home on December 30, 2011. She was born Janina Golinska on May 7, 1926 in Obrovo, Poland, and later lived in the house of Nicholas Copernicus in Torun. After surviving the Nazi occupation she escaped Soviet occupied Poland with her parents and brothers in 1946. She came to the U.S. with her husband and two elder children in 1951 and settled in Monroe. Jane completed high school at nights and was a teacher in Monroe for many years, later becoming an adjunct professor at Southern Connecticut State University.
She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Roman and is survived by her children, Richard Matson of Vancouver, WA, Alexandra Lane of Tucson, AZ, and Edward Matson of Stratford, CT and their spouses. Also, grandchildren Jeffrey Matson and Suzanne Pulkkinen and their spouses, and great grandsons, Nash and Rhett Matson.
Visitation will be held at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher and Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT on Monday January 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stephen Church, Main St. Trumbull on Tuesday January 3rd at 10:00 AM. Burial will be private.
