Born in Chicago to Lorraine and Joseph Barry Pendergast, Joe grew up in Gages Lake, IL, and graduated from Warren High School in 1952. He worked at Johnson Motors for several years prior to working for James B. Moore in multiple staffing companies and opening offices for Moore in Boston and New York. Joe founded Weatherby Associates in Stamford in 1972 and Weatherby Healthcare in 1985, which grew to include offices in Ft. Lauderdale and Chicago. After retiring in 2000, Joe spent his leisure time in Key Largo, Florida and Fishers Island, New York.
Joe and his wife Paula joined Ocean Reef Club in 1978 where Joe was an active member of the Ocean Reef Rod & Gun Club and served on the Ocean Reef Club Advisory Board from 1999-2002. In 1991, Joe became a member of Anglers Club where he and Paula resided for a number of years.
An active hunter, Joe was past president of Ducks Unlimited, Aspetuck Chapter, in the 1980s and was featured in Curt Gowdy’s “The American Sportsman.”
Joe is survived by: his wife Paula Pendergast, sons Ryan Pendergast (Margaret), and Michael Pendergast, James Pendergast, Patrick Pendergast (Sarah), daughters Kimberly Ferguson (Marty), Lisa Brennan, Barbara Powell (Scott), 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held. Donations can be made to: March of Dimes or Feeding America.
