Valerie Ann Simmerman

Valerie Wood Simmerman, age 62, went to be with our Lord and Savior on October 9, 2022. She was born May 22, 1960 in Mobile, Alabama to Frank and Frankie Wood. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, George Simmerman, her children Meredith Simmerman, Sydney Simmerman Loper (Ryan), and G. Laithan Simmerman (Katherine), by her grandchildren: Landry, Dorothy Jane, and June, her father, Frank Wood (Perrye Lewis), her sisters: Sonya Mahler (Larry), Stacey Vargas (Daniel), and several good and caring friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Frankie Wood.

Valerie was a dedicated wife, mother, and teacher. She obtained her Bachelors and Masters in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Alabama, retired as a Kindergarten Teacher in 2020 after 37 years of dedication. It suited her servant heart well. Schools where she taught and served included Old Shell Road, Nan Gray Davis, Old Baker, Clinton, MS, Escatawpa, MS, Cherokee in Pascagoula, MS, Collier and Taylor-White. Valerie loved to make others feel special, always celebrating special moments in their lives. Her hands were rarely still. She had a vivacious personality, always making those around her smile.

Please join us in celebrating her life Friday October 14, 2022, starting with a wake between 10:00am and 12:00pm at Kingswood United Methodist Church, 5200 Perin Rd, Mobile, AL 36693. The funeral service will begin at 12:00, followed by a graveside service in Pine Crest Cemetery West, 1599 Snow Rd, Mobile, AL 36695.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to her church for either the Children’s Ministry or the Food Pantry program at Kingswood Methodist Church in Mobile, Alabama.
